What is a use case?
An IoT use case describes a specific application scenario in which IoT technologies and solutions are used to solve real-world problems or achieve goals. It shows the practical benefits through a clear presentation of scenarios and their effects. Our IoT use cases are based on tried-and-tested applications, validated by a documented success story from our network. This ensures that our use cases are not only theoretically feasible, but also successful in practice.
Business use case
A business IoT use case relates specifically to certain business, functional areas or value streams within an industry. It describes how IoT solutions can be used specifically to achieve business goals, optimize processes or improve cost efficiency.
Examples
- Energy monitoring: peak load management
- Condition monitoring: remote monitoring of assets
- Fleet management: route optimization
- Predictive maintenance: adaptive production planning
- Digital service: physical service deployment
- Traceability: Traceability

Technological use case
A technological IoT use case, on the other hand, is non-specific in relation to certain business, functional areas or value streams within an industry. It focuses on the technological aspects of the IoT application, such as data acquisition, integration and analysis, and can be used universally.
Examples
- Data collection and provision
- EDGE Architectures and EDGE Analytics
- Data security (OT Security)
- Indoor and outdoor data transmission and transfer
- Data streaming: Event-driven architecture
- IT/OT integration: data strategy and governance

What is a success story?
An IoT success story is a documented success story that demonstrates the success of a user or customer from our network through the use of an IoT solution in a business or technological use case. These success stories, some public and some published under NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), demonstrate how our verified network partners have achieved concrete positive results without having to disclose their names publicly.
Solution
What is an "IoT Solution“?
An IoT solution refers to the specific IoT product bundle, service or system that is used in a use case to solve a problem or achieve a target.
Technology
What is an "IoT Technology"?
IoT technology describes the various protocols and systems used in solutions to connect, integrate, and exchange data between physical devices, objects, and IT systems. These enable devices, machines, systems and IT systems to communicate with each other across different trades, collect and analyze data and react accordingly in order to solve various use cases, automate tasks or provide information.
Methodology
What is an "IoT methodology"?
An IoT methodology describes the systematic approach or procedure for achieving a specific goal or solving a problem, particularly in the context of developing and implementing IoT solutions. This can include the planning, analysis, implementation and monitoring of various steps or processes required to realize a successful solution.
