The GEBHARDT Intralogistics Group from Sinsheim is a provider of complete intralogistics solutions. For over 70 years, GEBHARDT has stood for flexible, modular conveyor and storage technologies as well as reliable concepts for warehouse automation and software applications. GEBHARDT develops, manufactures and installs individual solutions for in-house logistics in the retail & e-commerce, food & beverage, automotive, healthcare, contract logistics, fashion & consumer goods and industrial sectors. GEBHARDT offers everything from a single source, from planning and production to complete realization. More than 800 employees work continuously on innovative solutions at 7 locations in Germany and 8 international subsidiaries.

The initial situation

To ensure high availability, Gebhardt has set up an IoT solution using SAP IoT, SAP BTP and SAP AIN. This was used productively by Gebhardt in its own warehouse as well as by customers. Real-time data from the connected warehouse systems was used for analyses in order to optimize performance and maintenance (predictive maintenance) and thus increase the availability of the warehouse hardware used. In addition, the solution provided a digital twin of the individual warehouses including 3D models, integrated AR glasses for service optimization and served as a platform for developing new services for customers. Then, in 2022, SAP discontinued IoT services, whereupon Gebhardt needed a different basis for the solution – with the proviso of keeping the effort and impact on productive customers to a minimum. The choice fell on the Microsoft Azure platform.

The project

While Gebhardt had excellent IoT expertise in-house, he had no experience with Microsoft Azure. For the migration of the solution, a partner was therefore needed who had Azure and SAP Cloud Platform expertise and was also able to offer a complete solution with both development and consulting services. In addition, the partner should also be able to accompany the expansion of the Azure & SAP environment after project completion. The choice therefore fell on the All for One Group. In the project, All for One provided holistic support in bringing the existing SAP IoT solution onto the Azure platform within four months – from architecture definition with security concept, cost sensitivity and scalability, to defining and selecting the right services and providing development services, to proof of concept (PoC).

The results

After the SAP IoT discontinuation, Gebhardt migrated its existing IoT solution to the Azure platform, now having an architecture at least equivalent in capabilities. After the successful go-live in April 2023 with the company’s own warehouse as a test customer, customers will gradually gain access to Gebhardt’s tenant and will thus be able to switch to the new solution without any problems. After the successful go-live in April 2023 with the company’s own warehouse as a test customer, customers will gradually gain access to Gebhardt’s Tenant and will thus be able to switch to the new solution without any problems. Now the solution is being further developed together with Gebhardt.

The cooperation with All for One was outstanding. Not only did we complete the POC in the planned time, we were also able to develop in our usual way of working or hands-on mentality and thus now continue the project independently. Thank you for the very good project management in terms of accessibility, innovation, cost and time.
